Birmingham VOICES is a group of writers, meeting regularly every third Sunday of the month at the Gunmakers Arms, B4 6HG, at 3.30pm to perform their work. We like to hear all kinds of spoken word: poetry, prose, stories, journalism, essay, stand-up and anything else written and spoken that I haven't thought of here. We also encourage performances of work that's not yours if it is special to you. Performance slots can be 5 minutes, or longer - please discuss with me if you need longer.

Most people say that the atmosphere is so friendly and encouraging that it's easy for first-timers to read their pieces out. I want to keep it that way!

We are also planning to hold monthly poetry workshops on line, first Sunday of the month. The first (trial) of these was in July 2024. The next will be in October 2024.

We meet weekly for a working coffee morning every Tuesday at Coffee#1 in Kings Heath. Usually only about four of us attend, and you can drop in for as long as you want. There is no structure: just come and say hello, chat for a bit, and get on with some writing. It's a great occasion to meet like-minded people, get a bit of encouragement, and keep that longer project going.

We have a WhatsApp group for members. This is the best way to get news. Please contact me with your number if you want to be added.

Events are currently on hold for the Summer (apart from coffee mornings) but will be restarting in September.
